Abstract

In the hybrid or electric vehicle, the high demand for electric power requires the use of high electric current; the power automotive connector should resist this increase of electric current in order to avoid serious damage caused by the increase in contact temperature by the Joule effect. The objective of this article is to analyze experimentally and numerically the effect of the variation in the cable diameter on the decrease in contact temperature. For this reason, a finite element model has been developed to calculate the numerical values of the contact temperature for several cable diameters and several electric currents. In addition, experimental tests have been carried out to validate this numerical model. The results show that the influence of the cable section on the contact temperature is never neglected.
