Abstract

This study aims to clarify the functional difference in the analysis between linguistics and stylistics, considering that the latter branched off from linguistics, so we will try to present the most important high functional relationships between the two sciences and prove the efforts of both the stylistic critic Michael Riffaterre and the French stylistic theorist: Georges Mouliné, which sought to uncover the reasons for the apparent confusion between the two analyses: stylistics and linguistics, by understanding the nature of the dependence of stylistics on linguistics first, and then explaining the initiative of Michael Riffaterre, the pioneer of contextual stylistics, in his precedence in correcting this confusion scientifically and objectively, since the Arab critical arena was covered by a clear fog that prevented the distinction between the function of the stylistics and the function of the linguistics.
