Abstract

In this paper, an experimental study is carried out to evaluate the effect of coating material on the performance of cutting tools when
turning 42 CrMo4 steel. A comparative study was carried out between two carbide tools with the same geometry, the first uncoated and
the second coated with CVD. The ANOVA process was used to quantify the effects of the cutting parameters on the quality of the
surfaces obtained. The effect of coating layers on surface quality is also studied. We observe that a lower surface roughness is obtained
when using coated inserts
