The impact of the transport sector in Iraq - the maritime sector as a model-

Abstract

One of the most important effects of economic diversification in Iraq is the elimination of a single-economy reliant on the oil sector, which also leads to the diversification of income sources. Therefore, the application of economic diversification through varied investments underscores the importance of research into developing the transportation sector in Iraq. The challenge facing the Iraqi economy is its dependence on oil revenues to finance the budget. This research aims to diversify income sources and develop the transportation sector, particularly maritime transport. The researcher concludes that it is possible to develop transportation in Iraq by increasing investments and improving the sector's current state. We suggest focusing on the transportation sector, especially maritime transport, and introducing modern technology across all modes of transport in Iraq. Investment is therefore essential for improving the transportation sector, particularly maritime transport, to facilitate the import and export of various goods and services using the Iraqi fleet. This can generate foreign currency and increase revenues, thereby diversifying the financing of the general budget.
