Impact of the coronavirus pandemic (COUVID-19) on the UK tourism industry

Abstract:
This study aims to highlight the extent to which the tourism industry in the United Kingdom is affected, by highlighting the concept of tourism and its importance, and then addressing the reality of the tourism sector in the United Kingdom before and after the Corona pandemic (COUVID-19). This study concluded that the United Kingdom is the seventh largest international tourist destination classified by the number of tourists, and the United Kingdom represents 3.8% of global international tourism revenues, and tourism is the fifth largest source of exports in the United Kingdom. The sector has been affected during the pandemic, as tourism’s economic output declined by 64% between 2019 and 2020 from £75 billion to £27.2 billion resulting in a 1.5% drop in UK GDP.
